The dashcam images are enough to give anyone goosebumps. Picture this: it’s an ordinary day on a departmental road in Western France when, out of nowhere, a second truck decides to overtake the first, completely ignoring traffic laws. White lines and a central median? Apparently no obstacle for this driver’s risky behavior. As the second lorry pushes ahead, a car approaching from the opposite direction is forced to swerve onto the shoulder, barely dodging disaster.
The footage was captured by a driver working for Augizeau Transports Exceptionnels, a local haulage company, using their onboard dashcam. The video was published on December 5th on the Info-radar Loiret Facebook page and quickly made the rounds—gathering over 7,000 shares from worried (and frankly stunned) members of the public.
Reaction and Launch of Official Investigation
By Sunday, Info-radar Loiret had announced that the video was sent to the digital brigade of the Loiret gendarmerie (local police force). According to France Bleu Orléans, an investigation was launched the following Monday, December 7th, by the gendarmerie in Mer (Loir-et-Cher), working together with the Blois public prosecutor’s office.
A Catalogue of Violations
Radio France’s local bureau listed the numerous traffic offences attributed to the reckless lorry driver, who is now actively being sought by French authorities. These include:
- Endangering the lives of others by operating a road vehicle
- Excessive speed
- Crossing the central line
- Overtaking without being able to return swiftly to the normal lane
- Overtaking on the left side of the road, obstructing oncoming traffic
- Skirting the central median from the left with a heavy vehicle
It’s a laundry list that reads like a how-not-to manual for truckers.
Immediate Response from Truck Operator
No time was wasted in the aftermath of the viral video. The Czech transport company that owns the reckless truck responded publicly on Facebook, issuing an apology “on behalf of its driver.”
“We will take action in response to his behavior,”
the company added. It’s a safe bet they’ll be having some difficult conversations in the break room.
The unfolding investigation stands as a stark reminder that, even on familiar roads, one moment of reckless overconfidence can put countless lives at risk—and end up making headlines far beyond the French countryside.
