Trump demands $15 billion from “New York Times”

US President Donald Trump announced on the night of Monday to Tuesday that he was suing the “New York Times” for defamation, demanding $15 billion in damages from the daily.

“The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, slander, and defame me for far too long, and it stops, NOW!” Donald Trump wrote in capital letters on his Truth Social platform, adding that the case would be tried in Florida.

“Today, I have the great honor of filing a $15 billion lawsuit for defamation and slander against the New York Times,” the American president said.

In his message, the president describes the prestigious daily as “one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country.” He accuses him of being “a true spokesperson for the radical left Democratic Party” and of having supported Kamala Harris during the last presidential campaign.

Not a first

The “New York Times” has been “committed for decades against your favorite president (ME!), my family, my business,” he writes without laughing.

Donald Trump is not his first complaint against media that he considers hostile to him.

In July, he claimed at least ten billion $ for defamation from the “Wall Street Journal” after the publication of an article attributing to him a salacious letter addressed to financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Of which we are still awaiting the publication of the list promised by Trump.

On Tuesday, the daily reacted, denouncing “an attempt to muzzle independent journalism”.
