The Spaniard Marc Marquez (Ducati), leader of the MotoGP World Championship, returned to victory and got closer to the world title by winning the Saint-Marin Grand Prix, on Sunday on the Marco-Simoncelli circuit in Misano (Italy).
In the aftermath of his fall during the Sprint race while he was in the lead, the six -time world champion – beaten last Sunday during the GP of Catalonia by his brother Alex – this time did not let victory escaped. Starting in 4th position, the Catalan finally preceded Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), who won the sprint on Saturday and rushed into pole position, and his younger brother Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini).
On the lands of Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez thus won the 73rd victory of his Grand Prix career – the 11th this season – and rushes towards a seventh planetary crown which would allow him to match his great Italian rival. With 182 lengths ahead of the championship, Marc Marquez will indeed need to resume only three points from his brother to win the world title in two weeks in Japan.
73rd career victory
On Sunday, Marc Marquez still made a very good start to climb in 2nd row and he exceeded Bezzecchi in mid-race. But, once is not customary, the Spaniard failed to escape and was put under pressure to the end by the Transalpine, transcended at home and which failed only half a second from victory.
“I really gave everything. The error of yesterday (Editor’s note: Saturday, during the sprint) gave me a surplus of concentration but also of energy. I knew that it was very important for Ducati to win here, as in Mugello, so I am very happy for all supporters, ”said Catalan.
His Italian teammate Francesco Bagnaia, author of a calamitous sprint race (13th), dropped during the Grand Prix and therefore lived a new catastrophic weekend.
The Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who started in 3rd position, finished 8th. He could not resist the Ducati and was even doubled by the Italian Honda Luca Marini.
