The Australian authorities issued a strong storm alert on Wednesday in southern Australia after the appearance of a spectacular tornado which swirled over a rural area about 260 kilometers inside Sydney lands.
The tornado was filmed in the middle of the afternoon by a surveillance camera dedicated to fires dominating an extent of the countryside struck by a thunderstorm. The camera installed near Young, a city, to monitor bush fires, triggered automatically and captured images of the tornado in a stormy sky.
Fire detection towers are equipped with cameras to automatically detect smoke, as well as signs of heat and fire. They can also monitor thunderstorm cells because lightning can cause brush fires, James Morris, inspector of the Southern Wales South Wales, told AFP.
No victim was reported immediately.
