MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin will miss the first race of the season this weekend in Thailand, due to a left-hand injury, his APRILIA team announced on Monday.

Several fractures

Suffering from several fractures caused by a fall during a training session, the Spaniard must be operated on Tuesday in Barcelona and, therefore, will be absent from the Grand Prix of Thailand, “the Italian manufacturer said in a press release.

The duration of his convalescence “will be determined after the operation”.

Already fell during the first pre-season tests in early February, Martin had to forfeit for the rest of the tests because of an injury in the right hand this time, which required an operation. However, it was expected for the inaugural round of the season.

To replace him, Aprilia will call on her Lorenzo Savadori test pilot.

The Italian will team up with his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi, defector from Ducati, who started in the elite in 2022 under the colors of the VR46.
