The star of artificial intelligence Openai has filed a complaint in turn against the multimillionaire Elon Musk, accusing her former co -founder of having led a “relentless campaign” to harm the organization after she had success without him. The start-up that launched Chatgpt at the end of 2022 wishes to obtain an injunction to put an end to “other illegal and unjust actions” by Musk, as well as compensation.
In the legal documents deposited Wednesday before a Californian court, Openai says that Musk became hostile to the company after having abandoned it, years before its breakthrough in the generative artificial intelligence (IA). “Musk could not tolerate to attend the success of a society he had abandoned and declared condemned,” said Openai.
Musk had “abandoned” Open Ai
This complaint is the latest episode to date from an acerbic quarrel between the technological champion and the richest man in the world, who continued Openai in court last year, accusing him of having betrayed his founding mission. In its counterattack, the company believes that Musk “decided to destroy Openai and build a direct competitor who would be more technologically advanced-not for the good of humanity, but for Elon Musk”.
The boss of Tesla and SpaceX founded his own generative AI business, XAI, in 2023, and invested tens of billions of $ to compete with other major players in the sector.
OPENAI was founded in December 2015 as a non -profit research laboratory whose mission is to ensure that general artificial intelligence (AG) – designating an AI as intelligent as humans – “benefits all humanity”.
Elon Musk was one of the first donors, alongside the current boss Sam Altman. But his participation was short -lived, according to Openai. The company ensures that Musk left the organization after its Openai leaders refused “to comply with its requirements on business control or, alternately, its absorption in Tesla”.
Openai is now worth $ 300 billion after its last 40 billion $ round, the largest fundraising ever made by an unlisted start-up. But Openai will have to modify its statutes, to transform into a classic company, while retaining the non -profit mother organization.
OPENAI criticizes Elon Musk for harming him by wrongly presenting this change in legal form as a total conversion, by multiplying attacks in the press and on his social network X where he has more than 200 million subscribers and with his “fictitious purchase offer for Openai assets”.
