Former owner of Formula 1 stable, Eddie Jordan – famous for having given his first F1 steering wheel to Michael Schumacher – died at the age of 76 following a “prostate cancer”, announced his family on Thursday.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Eddie Jordan, ex-owner of F1 stable, TV consultant and entrepreneur,” wrote his family in a statement.

The Irishman – who was treated in South Africa – “died quietly with his family by his side at the CAP in the early hours of March 20, 2025,” added the press release.

F1 in mourning

Eddie Jordan had created the F1 team Jordan in 1991 and had the beginner Michael Schumacher among his first pilots during the 1991 Belgium Grand Prix. The stable participated in 250 Grands Prix until its sale at the end of 2005.

Eddie Jordan himself announced last December suffering from prostate cancer from which metastases had attacked other parts of his body.

The boss of F1, Stefano Domenicali, immediately reacted to the announcement of the death of Eddie Jordan saying, on behalf of the promoter of the Queen of Mechanical Sports discipline, “deeply struggled”. “With his inexhaustible energy, he always knew how to make people smile, while remaining authentic and brilliant at any time,” said Domenicali. “It represents a whole era of F1 and we will miss a lot,” he adds.

“Eddie Jordan was one of the biggest names in motorsport of all time,” said Andy Cowell, the boss of the Aston Martin stable, distant heir to Jordan. “He was an exceptional man, a formidable human being and a charismatic leader who founded this team and led him in F1 in 1991. His vision laid the foundations for our success.”
