The fields, gardens and stands on the market are adorned with all colors from spring. Flowers, aromatic herbs, vegetables, berries and fruits: it is a pleasure to be able to choose from so many products, each color of which is attached to the nutrients essential to our organism.
Colorful and diverse, this is how we represent agriculture. The association of small farmers has been committed for 45 years for peasant and social agriculture, for robust indigenous breeds and varieties as well as for ecological culture methods adapted to local conditions. We are convinced of this: the diversity of a healthy plate also involves that of agriculture.
Trees, hedges, hems, ponds are an integral part of the landscape. Animals and plants complement each other and are not in competition. Ecological surfaces are part of a resilient and multifunctional culture system. Farms based on several operating branches are less exposed to risks. Diversity is necessary in the fields, between them and among people who live and practice agriculture.
Diversity can question our usual methods of thinking. It may be a challenge, but it’s a great challenge. Because diversity also creates spaces of freedom. If the carrots of the stalls are colorful and twisted, then we notice the perfectly cylindrical carrot less.
