Japanese car manufacturer Honda announced on Monday the resignation of its vice-president, Shinji Aoyama, due to an “accusation of inappropriate behavior”. The company said that the facts took place “during a meeting outside working hours”, without giving more details.

The case was the subject of an investigation by the company’s audit committee, which led to the presentation of a disciplinary sanctions plan before the board of directors which was to rule. But Shinji Aoyama presented a letter of resignation before the latter made his decision, Honda said in a statement.

The president of the group, Toshihiro Mibe, will voluntarily reimburse 20% of his monthly remuneration for two months due to “the seriousness of this case”, according to the company.

“It is deeply regrettable that a person occupying a management position within the company, and supposed to show an example in matters of respect for human rights, of the laws and regulations in force, is the subject of an accusation of behavior contrary to these principles,” said the company that has apologized.
