The start of the MotoGP world champion’s start to the season, Jorge Martin is a nightmare. Wounded during pre-season tests (fractures at the foot and by hand), the Spaniard returned to the competition, after two months of absence, this last weekend during the GP of Qatar.
On the Losail circuit, after a sprint race ended in 16th place on Saturday for his return to competition, Martin fell and got hit by the Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio, Sunday in the GP.
Eight laps from the finish, the Aprilia driver lost adhesion in a turn. The Italian, who was in his wheel, could not avoid the shock with Martin’s back. “He was in front, he came out a little wide,” explained Di Giannantonio after the race. I was quite close to him, I was trying to double him. When he fell, his body was right in front of my motorcycle. We were about 200 km/h, more or less – if it is not 200, it’s 160 or 180, it’s a very fast turn, and I hit it. It was at the entrance to the turn 13. I could not go anywhere so I touched it. ”
Led to the hospital, a first diagnosis quickly fell: pneumothorax. Then, Monday morning, his team communicated that the Spaniard suffered, in addition, from eleven fractures of the coast.
The champion’s new return is not yet announced. The next Grand Prix takes place in his country on April 27.
