The Air Force of the Burmese junta bombed a school on Monday, killing 22 people, including twenty children, according to witnesses, despite a humanitarian ceasefire following a devastating earthquake.

Twenty children, two teachers

“For the moment, 22 people in total – twenty children and two teachers – were killed,” said a 34 -year -old teacher from the School of the Village of Oe Htein Kwin, speaking subject to anonymity. An educational official in the Sagaing region has given the same assessment.

A junta military plane bombed around 10:00 am local time (05:30, Swiss time) an OE Htein Kwin school, said residents. “We tried to disperse the children but the plane was too fast and dropped his bombs,” added the teacher.

A junta spokesperson could not be joined to comment on this information.

Civil war

Burma has been ravaged by a civil war since the coup d’etat which allowed the junta to seize power in 2021. The military faced adversaries from ethnic minorities and the pro-democracy movement.

The generals introduced a humanitarian truce until the end of the month to help help and reconstruction efforts following the March 28 earthquake.

The ceasefire did not prevent the junta from driving air strikes, nor its opponents from carrying out attacks.
