A collective response to food issues

- Jackson Avery

Spring is there, birds sing, insects are busy above flowers. It is already hot in April 2030 when Mr. Huguenin is preparing to go shopping. But today is a special day: he will be able to use his brand new Food Social Insurance card (ASA) for the first time. Like the AVS, this card is fueled by social contributions and can only be used in places chosen democratically by a citizen group. He rejoices all the more since he actively participates in these discussions.

With this new social insurance, it is certain to feed healthy while supporting local agriculture. For the moment, he and his family receive 240.- per month, which is already a good sum, and it is certain that this money will benefit the local short circuits. Thanks to this united insurance, he can now participate in the decisions of the food system as a citizen. He is convinced: the change does not come from isolated individual acts. Finally, a collective response that goes beyond the hyper-responsibility of individuals, he says!

When paying with his ASA card, a question suddenly comes to mind: but why haven’t we thought about it earlier?
