Authorities from the Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in Frederick County

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on the afternoon of June 1st in Frederick County.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Frederick Barrack responded to the intersection of US Route 15 and Catoctin Furnace Road for a report of a crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist. According to a preliminary investigation, a Toyota 4Runner was traveling in the first lane of northbound US-15, just south of Catoctin Furnace Road. The bicyclist, identified as Scott Cornell Binde, 64, of Alexandria, Virginia, was crossing US-15 from west to east at Catoctin Furnace Road when he was struck.

Binde was declared deceased at the scene by Frederick County Fire Rescue Services personnel. The driver remained at the scene. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash. Northbound US Route 15 was closed for about three hours following the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation
