Office of the State’s Attorney to Host 9th Annual Drug Overdose and Prevention Vigil

The State’s Attorney’s office will host Carroll County’s 9th Annual Drug Overdose and Prevention Vigil.  This event will be held on May 14, 2024, at the St. John Portico, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the Vigil will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.

When this event began there was a gap in community services that could assist family members and friends during their time of loss.  There was no venue, no place where they could go to see that the community is with them and that they are not alone while grieving the loss of their loved ones to a drug overdose.  The Vigil was started to give those grieving that place they needed, to remember those we’ve lost, to provide support to those suffering, and to help raise awareness to the continued challenges the community faces regarding the opioid crisis.

During the Vigil, the Office of the State’s Attorney will also present the Message of Hope award and The Bob Kirkland award to two deserving individuals in our community for their commitment to our community, their compassion to the families of those lost to an overdose, and their support of individuals on their journey of recovery.

State’s Attorney Shoemaker commented, “Over the years the Drug Overdose Vigil has provided healing and hope for so many members of the community.  Please join us for this important evening of remembrance and support.”  We encourage families and friends who have suffered the loss of a loved one to an overdose or know someone suffering from a substance use disorder to join us on May 14th to support one another and remember the loved ones we’ve lost.
