❗️MEDIA RELEASE❗️

On 5/1/2024 at 10:05pm, TPD officers were dispatched after receiving several complaints of dirt bikes in the roadway operating in a reckless manner. While canvassing the area, Officers were approached by a witness that indicated that both dirt bikes had been in the park, and he had listened to the riders talking. The witness advised that the two younger male voices had been looking for the “police” and appeared to want to be involved in a chase. At this time, Officers heard a dirt bike approaching their location. Officers were sitting stationary on Roberts Mill Road when they observed a dirt bike traveling on the roadway towards their vehicle. The operator of the dirt bike was not wearing a helmet or eye protection. The dirt bike did not display any required lamps or taillights and had no registration plate visible. Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the dirt bike. The operator on the dirt bike did a sharp U-turn upon observing the marked patrol unit, almost laying the bike over, and proceeded on Roberts Mill Road at a high rate of speed. The dirt bike failed to stop for the clearly and conspicuously posted stop sign at Roberts Mill Road and George Street. The dirt bike then continued on Roberts Mill Road. As the operator of the dirt bike was attempting to evade and elude police, officers deactivated their emergency equipment and terminated all attempts to stop the operator.

Through witness statements, collected video footage, and thorough investigation, the operators of the dirt bikes were positively identified as two juvenile male subjects. Furthermore, it was discovered that one of the suspects was operating a dirt bike that did not belong to him, nor did he have permission from the owners to use.
