Mount Airy Police Department shared the following information on March 15th:

The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating recent reports posted to social media involving encounters with an unattended dog while walking the Rails to Trails section leading to Watkins Park. We are working closely with Carroll County Animal Control as they conduct their own investigation in response to recent incidents.

We want to reiterate to our community members the importance of calling 911 if you encounter any animal that is acting in an aggressive or dangerous manner. An animal bite need not occur to be considered an emergency, however contacting 911 is especially critical for reporting an animal bite.

When encountering an unconfined or distressed animal that is not posing an immediate risk to public health and safety, residents can also contact Carroll County Animal Control of at 410-848-4810 or Frederick Count Animal Control at 301-600-1546.
