Larry Hogan (62nd governor of Maryland from 2015 to 2023 and current candidate in Maryland for US Senate in 2024) put out the following tweet on November 6th:

“It is about time Washington finally acts. As governor, we led the nation in banning TikTok on state devices. In the Senate, I will continue to lead on protecting our personal safety and our national security from the cyber vulnerabilities that support our daily lives.”

The tweet also included this link: https://thehill.com/policy/technology/4512824-white-house-hails-important-and-welcome-bill-that-could-ban-tiktok/

Noted in the article from The Hill “White House hails ‘important and welcome’ bill that could ban TikTok“:

“It specifically defines ByteDance and TikTok as a foreign adversary controlled application and urges the parent company to divest the platform or face a ban in the U.S., while also creating a broader framework that would allow the president to designate other foreign adversary controlled applications”.

Also noted in that article:

TikTok spokesperson Alex Haurek slammed the bill as an “outright ban of TikTok, no matter how much they authors try to disguise it.”

“This legislation will trample the First Amendment rights of 170 million Americans and deprive 5 million small businesses of a platform they rely on to grow and create jobs,” he said in a statement.

The Observer reached out to the Hogan campaign on March 7th (via email) for additional clarification and have not received a response as of this article.
