Per the National Weather Service on February 28, 2024:

A strong cold front will bring heavy rain & high winds to the region later today. Southerly winds are gusting up to 25 mph this morning with 40-55 mph gusts expected later this afternoon-tonight as the front passes. Winds will continue Thursday before diminishing Thursday night.

Here is a look at the details of the Wind Advisory in effect from February 28, 06:00 PM EST until February 29, 04:00 AM EST

…WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 4 AM EST THURSDAY…

* WHAT…West to northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.

* WHERE…Portions of central, northeast and northern Maryland, The District of Columbia, central and northern Virginia, and eastern West Virginia.

* WHEN…From 6 PM Wednesday to 4 AM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

Additional details of the weather for our area over the next couple of days:

Wednesday: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. High near 62. Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers before 7pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 28. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming southwest after midnight.
