Post on February 18th by Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company:

Last night around 12:30 AM, units from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company and the New Market District Volunteer Fire Company were alerted for a report of a vehicle collision with rescue in the area of Woodville Road and Rt. 144. Units arrived simultaneously to find a pick up truck that had struck a parked skid steer with a single occupant pinned.

New Market Chief 15 established command and assigned Chief 1 as the rescue group supervisor. Rescue 1 and the crews from New Market Co. 15 removed the doors, rolled the dash, and extricated the patient out through the passenger side door. The patient was transferred to the care of Medic 19 and was flown to a local trauma center by Trooper 3. The extrication took about 18 minutes and units were on scene for roughly 45 minutes before returning to service.

This was the second working extrication that Rescue 1 ran this week. On Tuesday, 2/13, Rescue 1 and Chief 1 ran a vehicle collision with rescue in the 3200 Blk of Ridge Rd. The MAVFC assisted crews on scene with extricating a patient from a vehicle on its side.

The Rescue company is a vital part of the MAVFC and responds to vehicle collisions every day. It is an essential resource to our community and we are proud to provide this service.
