When Congressman John Sarbanes (Congressional District 3 in Maryland) announced he would not seek reelection in 2024 many of us guessed there might be a decent number of candidates that would enter the race for that open seat. I do not think anyone could have guessed that the day after the filing deadline in Maryland we would have a total of 31 candidates running this cycle for that seat.

On the Democratic side we have a total of 22 candidates that have filed to run for Congressional District 3. I believe that these are the candidates to watch closely in this race:

  • Sarah Elfreth
  • Clarence Lam
  • Harry Anthony Dunn
  • Mike Rogers
  • Terri Hill
  • Mark S. Chang

On the Republican side we have a total of 9 candidates that have filed to run for Congressional District 3. I do not yet have a good feel for the top GOP candidates in this race but these are some of the names I am currently watching:

  • Berney Flowers
  • Robert J. Steinberger
  • Jordan Mayo
  • Naveed Mian
  • Arthur Radford Baker, Jr

The Observer has a “Candidate Tracker” where you can get links to the candidate campaign websites, leaders in campaign financial information, and election dates for the 2024 Primary Election and 2024 General Election. This “Candidate Tracker” will be updated as the election moves forward updating new financial data and additional details about the candidates as that is obtained.
