It’s always good to start your day on a positive note. A Westminster man started his morning recently with a full dose of positivity after discovering he won $50,000 playing Bonus Match 5.
The big winner follows a ritual of going to a Lottery retailer early in the morning to buy new Lottery tickets and check old ones from the previous day. He meets up with a friend, who also checks his Lottery tickets. One morning, his friend had no luck. Our anonymous winner, however, received an interesting message when he scanned a Bonus Match 5 quick-pick ticket from the Jan. 10 drawing.
The ticket checker’s message stated, “Go to Lottery.”
“My buddy was on the other end of the store. I called him over to ‘Look at this message!’” recalled the Carroll County resident.
He was not sure of the exact amount he won so he left the Lottery retailer.
“I went to another store and the manager started to check my ticket. Then, she said she could not breathe. Well, that was great and I am glad she was excited, but she still didn’t tell me how much I won,” he said with a laugh.
When the manager finally caught her breath, she revealed that he was a $50,000 top-prize winner. The loyal player said he remained calm but did feel a jolt of excitement.
The maintenance technician told Lottery officials that he plans to pay off his vehicle and pay bills with his prize.
The winner likes to play other games and generally lets the terminal quick pick the numbers, except when it comes to Pick 3. He is superstitious, the winner said, and plays the numbers associated with the time of day he wakes up.
“It usually starts with a 2,” he said, explaining that he routinely wakes up before 3 a.m.
He bought the lucky ticket at Wawa #590 in Westminster. For selling the top-prize winning ticket, the Carroll County retailer located at 805 Leidy Road will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
This is the third top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket sold in 2024. The other winners hailed from Riverdale and Lanham.
