After a grueling three days of competition, Finksburg native Savannah “Woodge” Fulton and her horse Cash Point, an eight-year-old gelding owned by Nelson Warnell, have made the podium at the CCI3*-L and USEF National Championship at Fair Hill in Elkton, MD.

Out of 46 horse and rider pairs, Fulton and Cash Point finished in third place on their dressage score of 31.4. They were one of only eight pairs to finish without added jump or time penalties after the three phases of the competition: dressage, cross-country, and stadium jumping. Alongside the 3*, which is the third-highest level, Fair Hill hosts the CCI5*-L, the highest level of the sport. The Maryland 5* is one of only seven 5* events in the world, only two of which are held in the U.S.

Fulton, who has had multiple 5* completions with her now-retired gelding Captain Jack, has traveled across multiple continents to train and compete amongst the best. She now runs her own training business, FMF Equestrian, with husband David Ziegler at her parents’ Full Moon Farm, an equine facility in Finksburg that provides lessons, boarding, and horse shows. Dozens of riders from Full Moon came out to watch and support Fulton over the three days of competition.

About “CCI3*-L & USEF Eventing National Championship

In addition to hosting a CCI5*-L competition, the event also hosts a CCI3*-L competition featuring many more of the best athletes and horses from around the world. Highlighted as a portion of the competition will be the USEF CCI3*-L Eventing National Championships, which is open to all US competitors entered in the three-star competition. The CCI3*-L National Championship has been hosted at Fair Hill for over 30 years, so we are thrilled to have the competition remain at the venue.

The CCI3* level of eventing is comparable to the intermediate level in domestic competition. Horses who compete at the three-star level must be at least 6 years of age. Athletes are eligible to compete once they turn 16 years old.
