CCPS Named Among Best Communities for Music Education

Carroll County Public Schools has been recognized among the Best Communities for Music Education by The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding music education programs for the sixth consecutive year.

This designation recognizes the outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who are making music part of a well-rounded education for every child in their communities. To qualify for this award, the school system was required to complete a detailed questionnaire about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, and support from the Board of Education and the community.

The CCPS music program has been recognized for many accomplishments at the state and national levels. The Century High School Marching Band has been selected to represent the state of Maryland in the 2022 Pearl Harbor Day parade in Hawaii. Several students were selected for the 2021-2022 All-State ensembles. Tamba Giles, a music teacher at Sandymount Elementary School, received a 2021-2022 Outstanding Teacher Award and is a finalist for the Carroll County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Rachel McCusker, a music teacher at Linton Springs Elementary School, was the 2015-2016 Carroll County Teacher of the Year and was recently elected to serve a second term on the Maryland State Board of Education.
