Candidate Information / Statement:

My name is Kate Maerten, and I am a candidate for the Commissioner of Carroll County District 5. I am a mother of 5 school age children, a small business owner, and a former D1 collegiate athlete.
I’m an athlete and a competitor at heart. I was a two time all American at the community college of Baltimore County before transferring to St. Francis University- a division 1 college in the Northeast Conference. I have participated in several sprint, Olympic, and half iron-man triathlons, run in several marathons over the years including the Boston Marathon, and the JFK 50 miler in 2018- coming in top 100 females. I’ve been inducted into the Hall of Fame at Community College of Baltimore County, and currently part of Eldersburg Rogue runners and a member of Blackbird Crossfit, in Sykesville.

My competitive nature carried over to my career, where for over 20 years I’ve enjoyed a successful career in the mortgage and insurance industries. I started off the first half of my career as a successful mortgage broker before transitioning to the insurance industry and opened my own State Farm agency in 2010. My business steadily grew, and I expanded my offerings to meet my customer’s needs, and in 2019 opened my own independent agency Maerten Insurance Group where I enjoy continued growth and success.
My focus in running for Commissioner is our children, the future of this county, and our community. We have elected people believing they have our best interest at heart- but their intentions and actions have proven otherwise. This became evident during the pandemic and It’s time we elect patriots that truly care about our community and not their personal political aspirations.

I am excited for this opportunity to serve as your Commissioner in District 5 and I sincerely thank you for your vote on July 19th.
